Asian Medicines: Encounters, Translations and Transformations

Call for papers

Kiel University
August 6–12, 2017

The International Association for the Study of Traditional Asian Medicines (IASTAM) is now accepting applications for abstracts of papers for ICTAM IX — the leading international congress on the study of Asian medicine that will be held at Kiel University, August 6–12, 2017. We encourage papers that develop the theme of the congress “Asian Medicines: Encounters, Translations and Transformations” by revisiting old paradigms in the spirit of new research.

If you would like to participate in ICTAM IX, please take note of the following submission details:

Submissions can be either for a paper to be included in a panel, or for an independent poster presentation. Both papers and posters must represent original work not already published or in press. You should submit an abstract of your paper in no more than 300 words as well as three keywords which best describe the content of your paper via the link below.

Paper presentations

Presenters are expected to give a presentation of no more than 20 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of discussion. You have the opportunity to ask that your paper be nominated to a pre-existing panel. Please review the panel abstracts on our open panel page, and if you find a panel suited to your topic, please indicate the panel title in your application. you will find contact details for the panel organizers listed by the abstracts.

If none of the open panels suit your paper, then please indicate on of the 11 themes listed on our overview page.

Even if your paper was included in a pre-arranged panel, we ask that you still submit your abstract using the link at the top, and clearly indicate the title of the panel.

Paper abstracts will be evaluated by the panel organizers only for inclusion to the panel. Responsibility for assessing the academic merit of the papers at the conference lies with the program committee. If a paper does not suit the panel you have requested, but is still of a high scientific standard, the conference organizers will assemble remaining papers into cross-sectional panels.
Poster presentations

If you decide to give a poster presentation, you will have an opportunity to indicate this in your application. Your paper will not be matched to a panel and you will be given exhibition space to present your poster in one of our poster sessions.

If you are unable to bring a printed version of your poster to the conference, we will gladly assist in connecting you to print shops near the venue. We ask you to give us prior notice of at least four weeks, and—if at all possible—send us your poster so it can be printed and laminated in time for the conference.
Publication

We are proud to be able to offer publication of papers presented at ICTAM IX either orally or by poster. Details of how to apply for publication in Brill's Asian Medicine will be communicated to successful applicants.
Evaluation process

On November 1, 2016 we will start the evaluation process and the program committee will review the submitted paper abstracts. We will try to inform you of their decisions in a timely manner.

The deadline for abstract submission is November 1, 2016.
